1. Initial Inspection.
Before cleaning:
✅ Set the tent up fully if possible
✅ Inspect all poles, zippers, seams, stakes, rainfly, and flooring
✅ Check for:
- Mud
- Mold or mildew
- Tears or holes
- Broken zippers
- Smoke smell
- Pet hair
- Trash or food residue
- Excessive dirt or stains
📸 Take photos of any damage before cleaning for documentation.
2. Remove All Debris
Before washing:
- Shake out the tent thoroughly
- Vacuum interior flooring and corners
- Remove:
- Dirt
- Leaves
- Sand
- Food crumbs
- Trash
- Insects
⚠ Never fold or store a tent with dirt or moisture inside.
3. Cleaning the Tent
Approved Cleaning Supplies
Use only:
- Mild dish soap
- Warm water
- Soft sponge or microfiber cloth
- Soft bristle brush (light use only)
- Non-bleach disinfectant spray safe for fabrics
DO NOT USE:
❌ Bleach
❌ Harsh chemicals
❌ Pressure washers
❌ Strong detergents
❌ Fabric softeners
These products can damage waterproof coatings.
Exterior Cleaning
- Spot clean muddy areas first
- Use gentle soap and warm water
- Wipe down rainfly and tent walls
- Rinse lightly with clean water if necessary
Interior Cleaning
- Wipe down all surfaces
- Sanitize high-touch areas:
- Zippers
- Door handles
- Pole sleeves
- Flooring
- Remove odors using fabric-safe deodorizer if needed
4. Drying Procedures
⚠ MOST IMPORTANT STEP
Tents MUST be completely dry before storage.
Drying Rules
- Air dry fully before packing
- Dry in shaded outdoor area when possible
- If indoors, use fans for airflow
- Open all doors and windows during drying
Never store:
❌ Damp tents
❌ Wet rainflies
❌ Moist flooring
Moisture can cause:
- Mold
- Mildew
- Odor
- Permanent damage
5. Mold & Mildew Procedures
If mold or mildew is discovered:
- Isolate the tent immediately
- Clean affected area with tent-safe mildew remover
- Fully dry the tent in sunlight if possible
- Reinspect before returning to inventory
⚠ Severe mold damage may require removal from service.
6. Final Inspection Checklist
Before storing or renting again:
✅ Tent fully dry
✅ Zippers functioning
✅ Stakes counted
✅ Poles complete and undamaged
✅ Rainfly included
✅ No strong odors
✅ Tent folded properly
✅ Storage bag clean and dry
7. Storage Guidelines
Store tents:
- Indoors
- In a cool dry place
- Off concrete floors if possible
- Away from direct sunlight
- Away from moisture and pests
8. Customer Damage Notes
Document and report:
- Burn holes
- Broken poles
- Excessive mud
- Pet damage
- Smoke damage
- Missing equipment
- Food or drink stains
Additional cleaning or damage fees may apply depending on condition.
9. Quick Turnaround Cleaning Standard
For same-day or next-day rentals:
Priority order:
- Dry completely
- Sanitize interior
- Inspect damage
- Repack professionally
Never rush storage while damp.
10. Cleaning & Sanitizing All Rental Equipment
All rental equipment must be cleaned, sanitized, inspected, and dried after every rental.
This includes:
- Air mattresses
- Sleeping bags - cleaned in high heat using hypoallergenic detergent
- Bedding - cleaned in high heat using hypoallergenic detergent
- Pillows- - cleaned in high heat using hypoallergenic detergent
- Camp chairs
- Tables
- Coolers
- Cooking equipment
- Lanterns
- Propane accessories
- Glamping décor items
- Other rental accessories
Sanitizing Procedures
- Wipe down all hard surfaces with disinfectant
- Wash removable fabrics when applicable
- Vacuum soft materials as needed
- Check for stains, odors, damage, or missing items
- Ensure all equipment is fully dry before storage
⚠ Equipment with excessive damage, strong odors, mold, or unsafe conditions must be removed from service until repaired or replaced.
